Dreaded
Drummer Productions
is the
culmination of a series of "Dreaded Drummer events.
In the 1980's Terry Brannigan and Ed Shook of the O.H.
Booth Hose Fife and Drum Corps of Poughkeepsie, New York
started this alliance as a prank to play on unsuspecting
"victims" at drum corps events. It was
also used as an initiation into the Booth Hose Corps.
The "victim" would be blind folded and
marched in an unpredictable direction. Then, when
their destination was reached, the blind fold would be
removed and they'd be "dumped" into the water.
In 1981,
the Dreaded Drummers invited me to join. At 13
years old, I was dubbed "The Junior Dreaded
Drummer." This was a learning experience that
will never be duplicated and an honor I will never
forget!
A few
years later, I was teaching and playing with the Young
Colonials Fife & Drum Corps from Lake Carmel, New
York. We were achieving a lot of success, but
looking for an identity. With the blessings of the
Dreaded Drummer Elders, I adopted the name and dubbed
our group "The Dreaded Drumline."
We were
not your run of the mill ancient drum line.
Utilizing the tradition of rudimental, but incorporating
many contemporary techniques, we developed a style and
reputation unique among ancient fife and drum corps.
Our run of success was from 1987 to 1996. During
that time, our corps dominated the world of junior
fifing and drumming, winning the following
championships:
5
TIME NORTHEASTERN CHAMPS
6
TIME NEW YORK STATE CHAMPS
10 TIME
GREATER DANBURY AREA CHAMPS
1 TIME
CONNECTICUT STATE CHAMP
5 TIME EARL
STURTZ DRUMLINE AWARD
In
individual and ensemble competition, there were too many
champs to name, but the rudimental bass drum category is
of particular interest. From 1984 to 1996
our drummers won 11 out of 13 Northeastern
Championships.
